Right now, our understanding of mental illness is nowhere near where it needs to be.
One in four of us experiences mental illness each year, yet our knowledge is so limited that it can take an average of ten years to get help after symptoms first develop. Treatments and interventions are nowhere near effective enough. Side effects from medications can be exhausting. And a painful period of trial-and-error is often needed to reach a helpful solution.
We’re MQ, the UK’s leading mental health research charity, and we won’t accept this status quo.
Through research, we can inspire the next great shift in healthcare. Think of the huge advances made through research, from HIV to cancer. Treatments for these, and many other diseases, are unrecognisable compared to 30 years ago. We’re committed to delivering an equivalent transformation in our response to mental illness.
